A Message from the Museum Director

The Asian Art Museum stands in solidarity with AAPI communities that have been targeted with hate and violence. We also recognize that other minority groups — whether ethnic, racial, religious, or immigrant — have been targeted.

We condemn all forms of racism and xenophobia. Hate does not accomplish anything other than greater pain, distrust, and destruction. Hate prevents healing and growth.

Along the Hyde Street side of our museum, we have three artists that all directly speak to the motives underlying this targeting — from street harassment and sexual assault, to visibility and representation — and why ensuring Asian and Asian American voices have a platform matters more than ever in a racially-charged political climate.

We are committed to making the Asian Art Museum a place that welcomes and inspires everyone. By developing practices and programs that foster dialogue and connect people through cultural expression, we strive to build empathy and understanding. We believe in the power of engagement with Asian art and culture in its many forms and we thank you for joining us. We are all in this together.
